Stelios Koudounaris was one of the Greek fashion designers that were asked to transform the classic Eastpak backpack bag into a piece of fashion, as part of the Artist Studio Project organized by the international label.
He chose to use gold and silver reflective materials.
When Stelios first described me his Illusionbag, his inspiration to create optical illusions and a sculptural form and the whole process of making it (exclusive photos of the making procedure below), which by the way was not easy at all, I thought that although I have known him and his work for a couple of years, I really wouldn't expect him, or probably any other designer working in Greece, to be so creative and innovative. This bag could easily look tacky or edgy in a bad way, but it doesn't at all. It was so very precisely constructed that It actually doesn't have one color, one shape, one form, hence it constantly evolves depending on the surroundings. It is indeed "a powerful and unique garment", words used in the press release of the Eastpak company. No wonder why the head directors of it selected his styles among the nine best worldwide to be launched at the Bread&Butter exhibition in Berlin, running since yesterday.
