The Fall 2011-12 collection of Turkish-born young designer Ongun Ulker was based on the idea of covering and sheltering that is common in both fashion and architecture. Ongun, who has graduated from the London College of Fashion, used linear panelling - both flat and 3D patterns- which he applied to the surface of the material in color blocks creating bold graphical effects.
The color palette varies from grey to dark beige and black while the clever use of fur and suede completed the outstanding men's collection of the designer.
Ongun's previous collection was chosen as one of the best 5 collections for Spring 2011 collection of Tween, which collaborated with the LCF last year in the Tween Project.
"After I decided to develop menswear collections, I approach the classical principles of menswear and traditional tailoring via a similar view to womenswear. I juxtaposed the simplicity with innovative details and contemporary shapes with the materials which has the connotations of solid architecture and complicated constructions" told me Ongun Ulker when I asked him his personal definition of contemporary menswear.
